Giving Back to the Community: ReBIT-ians Step Forward
Sarvesh Bedekar, Associate Manager - Full Stack Developer, Research and Innovation team, mentored a team of six engineering students from his alma matter, Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, at the ‘Smart India Hackathon 2018’ (Hyderabad Centre). They emerged as one of the ‘Grand Finale’ winners and took home the gold medal and the prestigious trophy! The non-stop, 36 hour national level event was conducted by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and the Human Resources ministry. The theme was creation of innovative technical solutions for different ministries, states and sectors. Sarvesh was chosen by his college team to mentor them. He helped the students organize scrums, follow Continious Improvement/ Continuous Development (CI/CD) processes and use the Intranet network to host local development infrastructure. Their winning idea was to automate the current manual information collection process for the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). They developed a dynamic forms platform with drag and drop form creation options, used optical character recognition technologies to digitize the existing forms and Blockchain to store immutable and auditable records. The technology stack employed by the team includes Angular, NodeJs, MongoDb, Redis and Hyperledger blockchain. The team immensely benefited from Sarvesh’s professional expertise and industry experience. Kudos to Sarvesh and his mentees for a stellar performance!
Another of our colleagues Anthony Vinose, Associate Manager - Information Technology, Corporate Center, recently mentored more than 60 engineering and technology students at the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology, Patna to help them qualify for ‘WorldSkills 2019’ (an Olympic equivalent for geeks), to be held in Kazan, Russia. The students were mentored on technical skills, time management and equipped to meet the grueling demands of WorldSkills. He also guided the students on a few core technical concepts like RADIUS server, CA server, Postfix and Dovecot. In 2015, Anthony was selected among 15,000 contestants through a rigorous screening process to represent India at WorldSkills - Sao Paulo, Brazil. He recalls his experience of competing in the four day event wherein the contestants were expected to establish Windows platform, Linux platform and network security on a high-end server using virtualization technology. This exercise requires a time span of 4-5 months in the market place and it is a rarity to find such a skillset (extensive knowledge on all the three platforms). The Indian government also encourages our national representatives by introducing them to OEMs of different software companies to help them in turn beef up their knowledge on the different platforms and compete in the international event. ReBIT is proud of Anthony’s volunteering and community contribution.
We fully support our team members’ volunteering efforts and contributing back to the community.
