Job Description

We are looking for a positive, proactive and detail-oriented Sr. Technical Project Manager to oversee all project operations from inception to execution and to ensure IT projects are completed on time. The Technical Project Manager is responsible for maintaining budgets, enforcing deadlines and supervising team members of multiple projects.

 

The incumbent will interact with Project Management Office (PMO), and direct and coordinate the utilization of resources across divisions of the project to reach targets.

 

The incumbent will document instructions for end users and assist with testing of the final product. You will communicate with stakeholders during all phases of the project, and close it efficiently.

 

The incumbent should be able to technically lead/guide a team of 5 to 7 various skilled team members, while contributing individually.

Education

A degree in Computer Science or a related discipline; or equivalent work experience. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience

  • 12+ years in a corporate IT environment
  • 8+ years of experience in project management
  • Other relevant experience in a related technical field (application development, deployment/implementation and infrastructure)
  • Work experience in a professional services industry, preferred
  • Work experience of managing software development team of 5 to 6 members
  • Work experience in defining project KPIs and metrics
  • Work experience of the end to end project from concept to delivery

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

  • The role will have responsibility to manage multiple technology projects in the vertical.
  • Experience working in a multi-skilled engineering environment coordinating Change Requests and Service Requests.
  • Experience of managing IT projects with personal accountability for delivering to time and cost for large, complex projects 6 months in duration
  • Mastery of project management methodology, tools and templates (includes program/project planning, schedule development, scope management and cost management)
  • Track record of customer focus, based on openness, trust, and delivering on promises
  • Extensive experience of delivery that includes the use of supplier and off-shore resources
  • Ability to work highly matrixed, multi-functional IT organization
  • Experience of working with 3rd party vendors/internal IT team to implement cloud technologies
  • Experience across packaged and bespoke systems and infrastructure, ideally on an international basis
  • Management skills to manage one or more large, complex projects simultaneously
  • IT background with experience across the systems development life cycle with experience in all project phases – plan, initiate, elaborate, design, build, test, implement including agile methodology.
  • Mastery knowledge and use of industry-standard project methods, tools and techniques e.g. RAIDS, budget, communication
  • Working knowledge of project management tools such as – Microsoft Project or Smartsheet or other industry standard tools is desired
  • Experience of delivering multiple enterprise-scale technology projects in Java/J2ee, Microservices, Containerizations and Devops capability
  • Strong team working skills across matrixed client, supplier and geographically dispersed virtual teams
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (includes negotiation)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – must be able to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing
  • Leader in the use of IT methodologies, processes and standards for project management
  • Working experience of performance management and goal setting of team members and self.

Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:

  • Monitors and manages project baseline to ensure activities are occurring as planned - scope, budget and schedule – manages variances
  • Proactively identify risks and issues on projects - leading team to develop risk management and issues management plans
  • Identifies potential points of contention for missed deliverables creates and implements strategy to mitigate shortfalls in timeline and budget
  • Anticipates problems before they occur; defines the problem or risk; identifies possible causes; works with team to identify solutions; selects and implements most appropriate solution
  • Develop and manage plans to address project strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats
  • Analytical skills and problem solving skills needed to manage multiple factors on a project simultaneously
  • Demonstrate business analytics to manage and meet sponsor and customer needs
  • Manage project’s control items/deliverables for customers and status reporting to internal management and customers

Supervision Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision provided by an experienced Program Leader or Chief Solution Architect; frequency on a weekly or as needed basis
  • Project manager is expected to act independently to deliver projects to schedule, budget and scope; support provided as required and requested, and is self-driven and motivated
  • Project manager leads project teams consisting of cross functional, global, and virtual groups; directly supervises staff; assigns responsibility to members; monitors progress
  • Project manager coaches, mentors and supports less experienced project managers as well as other project resources as needed.  Assigns responsibility to members; monitors progress and reports project health on a regular basis
  • Project manager is expected to manage a team of min 5 to 6 members

Certification Requirements

  • Project management certification is preferred (PMI/CAPM or PMP, PRINCE2)
  • Familiarity with ITIL v3 or 4 would be advantageous
